Yesterday the Government of Canada released a statement indicating that mandatory vaccinations are coming to federally regulated workplaces. These new regulations to the Canada Labour Code are, if passed, expected to take effect in early 2022.
As of right now, mandatory vaccinations are already in place for the federal public sector and employees working in the federally regulated air, rail, and marine transportation sectors. When the new regulations take effect, the rest of federally regulated employees (such as those that work in banks, telecommunications and land transport – just to name a few) will also be required to be fully vaccinated.
The Government will also develop resources to help federally regulated workplaces implement the COVID-19 vaccination requirements in consultation with their workplace health and safety committees or representatives.
As a reminder, the above only applies to federally regulated employers. If you are provincially regulated, this does not apply to your workplace.
